01The work
In “The Menina's Dance”, Rafael Heredia Cuevas offers a personal interpretation of one of the most recognisable figures in the history of Spanish art.
The tribute to Velázquez is filtered through the sculptor's own language, which simplifies the silhouette, refines the volumes and turns the figure into a gesture full of movement. The fullness of the skirt, the tilt of the body and the outstretched arms convey lightness and rhythm, while the white lacquered stoneware reinforces the purity of the forms and lets light gently model the surface.
Acquiring “The Menina's Dance” means adding to a collection a unique work that unites tradition and contemporary creation. At 25 × 35 cm it fits easily into private spaces, studies or carefully designed interiors, where it brings an immediate cultural reference and a sculptural presence of great personality. A piece in which Rafael Heredia Cuevas once again shows his ability to transform an image deeply rooted in our culture into a work of his own: recognisable and essential.
