01The work
In “Elegy”, Rafael Heredia Cuevas gives form to grief with two gestures that suffice on their own: a head thrown back, the mouth open in a soundless lament, and a raised arm with the hand outstretched, like someone letting go of what can no longer be held.
The figure is reduced to the essential and renounces any anecdote; the volumes, emphatic and polished, concentrate all the emotion in the tension between the face and the hand. The white lacquered stoneware gathers the light of the space and underlines the purity of the silhouette, so that the piece changes with every hour of the day.
Adding “Elegy” to a collection means living with a work of great expressive power and immediate reading, conceived for serene spaces where it can be contemplated from different angles. On its black base, the sculpture brings presence and a note of restrained intensity to private interiors, studies or reading rooms.
