01The work
In “Beethoven”, Rafael Heredia Cuevas pays tribute to one of the great figures in the history of music through a wholly personal sculptural language.
The face is built from firm volumes and carefully studied lines, with the hair taking a leading role, resolved in a succession of curved planes that bring rhythm, depth and character to the composition. Heredia does without the conventional portrait and takes the figure towards an essential, recognisable and contemporary expression. The white patinated stoneware accentuates the clean forms and lets light bring out the modelling, reinforcing the serene and elegant presence of the work.
Adding “Beethoven” to a collection means acquiring a unique work that unites sculpture, music and culture. Its dimensions allow it to be placed easily in a study, a library, a space devoted to music or a particularly cared-for interior, where it brings personality and evident intellectual content. A piece representative of Rafael Heredia Cuevas's language, in which mastery of line, formal simplification and the beauty of the essential turn the tribute to the composer into a sculpture with an identity of its own.
